Staying at the prince of wales hotel

Accommodations at the historic Prince of Wales will make your visit to this stunning part of the Canadian Rockies that much more memorable. The hotel is more on the more rustic side of things, but the views alone are to die for!

Prince of Wales stands alone on a hill, but there is a walking trail that leads to the rest of town (only about a 5-minute walk), making it easy to grab dinner or hop on a boat tour.

The lobby is open to the public to come in and take pictures, however, they ask that the furniture be reserved for hotel guests. We chose not to partake in afternoon tea due to timing and cost, but it seems like a fun way to experience the hotel and take in the views even if you aren’t a guest of the hotel.

They host historical talks in the lobby, which I highly recommend listening to. It’s a great way to gain a better understanding of the challenges and feats they overcame to build the property over a span of 14 years in the early 1900s. The intense wind in the area is just one of many unique obstacles they overcame while building the hotel (we got lucky and didn't experience how intense the wind can be!). I found it intriguing that Prince of Wales was the place to be during prohibition - the American's would travel across the border by rail in order to legally drink alcohol.

If you are looking for a unique stay in a beautiful location, Prince of Wales will not disappoint!
