Shoulder Season In Banff - avoiding the crowds

Although visiting during Banff’s shoulder season means there are fewer popular activities available, traveling in the "off season” can be quite rewarding. Banff's shoulder seasons run roughly from late March to mid June, and late September to mid December depending on the year. Accommodations and rental cars are more reasonably priced, and there are significantly fewer people around. The weather during shoulder season can be unpredictable, but we visited in early November and were met with a winter wonderland! The price was right, the crowds were minimal, and the scenery was as beautiful as ever!

Unfortunately, traveling during shoulder season means you sacrifice witnessing the stunning blue glacial lakes, but the snow-capped mountains absolutely make up for it!

We have also visited Banff in late March during a year where the snow melted extremely early. I appreciated the opportunity to see both of Banff's shoulder seasons and highly recommend early winter over late winter if you are choosing between the two. In early Spring, the snow becomes slushy and looks less fresh.

If you want to experience the beauty of Banff without the outrageous prices and influx of tourists, traveling during the shoulder seasons will be your best bet.
