Visiting Boothbay Harbor, Maine
If you are looking to visit a quintessential coastal Maine town, Boothbay Harbor has everything you need.
Where To Stay:
We loved our stay at Topside Inn (it made our list of top five stays in all of our travels!). Unfortunately, we visited during the height of covid in 2020, so our experience was more limited than usual. However, their ability to go above and beyond and still make the experience a 10/10 was impressive.
Where to Eat:
Shannon’s Unshelled
You can't visit Maine without eating a lobster roll and this was the best one we had on our trip! Apparently before covid there was a very long line here daily, and once they sold out that was it. One of the perks of traveling when no one else was - no lines!
Ports of Italy
We enjoyed our meal so much (not pictured) that we went back a second time and ordered takeout!
Things To Do:
Coastal Maine Botanical Garden
This botanical garden is the largest in New England! The grounds were beautiful and we really enjoyed our time there.
Their dahlia garden was in full bloom (mid-September) and quite impressive! It was a wonderful surprise for me since dahlias are my absolute favorite!
Go Sailing
While sailing is a wonderful way to complete the authentic Maine experience, it also provides a different vantage point of the coast. We booked our tour with Boothbay Harbor Schooners and had a nice time.
PSA: If you have never sailed before, they tip A LOT. My husband, who took sailing in high school, laughed when I thought we were about to capsize, since I was unaware.
